If you watch House Hunters International then you might have seen the episode that featured a house in Nicaragua on a private Island. When I saw this episode I thought it was pretty cool and never figured I would actually visit the place where it was located.
When we arrived in Granada, the one thing I really wanted to do was check out the Isletas tour. These small Islands were formed when the Mombacho Volcano erupted thousands of years ago. The volcano threw huge rocks into Lake Nicaragua and the result was 365 small Islands. The Isletas range in size from very small to some that are large enough to have several houses built on them.
There are roughly 1,200 people living on the isletas. Most are fishermen and other islands have hotels or houses from wealthy Nicaraguans such as owners of coffee, beer and rum as well as the Chamorro(former female president of Nicaragua).
They offer boat rides by the hour and guys at the doc will recommend the three hour tour. We decided to go for one hour and had a great time. We paid $10 for the one hour boat tour and it should be the same price no matter how many people you have on the boat.
